Obesity has been found to contribute in approximately 55% of cases of type II diabetes, Obesity is a pressing health concern because it often triggers the development of other serious medical conditions.

Type II diabetes is the most common form of diabetes.
In type II diabetes, either the body does not produce enough insulin or the cells ignore the insulin. Insulin is necessary for the body to be able to use glucose for energy. When you eat food. The body breaks down all of the sugars and starches into glucose, which is the basic fuel for the cells in the body. Insulin takes the sugar from the blood into the cells. When glucose builds up in the blood instead of going into cells, it can cause two problems:

•Your cells may be starved for energy.

•Over time, high blood glucose levels may hurt your eyes, kidneys, nerves or heart.

Possible complications include:
Atherosclerosis (hardening of the arteries) This can lead to poor circulation in the legs.
Increases stroke and heart attack risk. Diabetic nephropathy (diabetes-related kidney isease). Diabetic retinopathy (diabetes-related eye disease). Diabetic neuropathy (degeneration of the nerves). Ulcers and infections of the feet. Susceptibility to infections.
Some groups have a higher risk for developing type II diabetes than others.
Type II diabetes is more common in African Americans, Latinos, Native Americans, and Asian Americans/Pacific Islanders, as well as the aged population.
In one study, those who had high levels of physical activity, including a healthy diet and did not smoke, and who consumed alcohol only in moderation, had an 82% lower rate of diabetes. When a normal weight was included, the rate was 89% lower.
